Modern problems call for modern solutions! As the COVID-19 coronavirus continues to be a threat around the world, professional janitorial services and everyday people alike are looking for better ways to sanitize and disinfect surfaces. This is especially important since a recent study showed that COVID-19 has the potential to live on surfaces for up to 28 days. Without proper disinfection, the threat of spread can increase exponentially in workplaces, offices, and more. Electrostatic disinfection is a great new technology that is far more effective at germ-killing than traditional methods, and it’s becoming more commonplace every day.
How does it work? Let’s take a look.
Why Electrostatic Disinfection Is Better Than Regular Disinfecting Wipes
The most common method of “disinfecting” a surface generally boils down to spraying it with alcohol or a similar germ-killing agent, then wiping it with rags or paper towels. While this may be acceptable for day-to-day cleaning, it’s not an effective way of killing dangerous viruses like COVID-19 for two reasons.
First, sprays are often uneven, leaving some areas of the surface dry while others are coated. This reduces disinfection effectiveness. Also, rags and paper towels often just smear germs around, rather than actually killing them – particularly if the rags are dirty.
Electrostatic disinfection sprays solve both of these problems.
The spray works by using a special disinfecting agent, which is sent through an electrode as it’s being sprayed. This gives the atoms in the spray a positive electric charge, causing them to stick to any surface they touch. It’s like the way static cling holds laundry together after a trip through the dryer. So, rather than dripping off of the surface being sprayed, the disinfecting agent stays put.
This also means that it’s much easier to thoroughly coat surfaces with the disinfecting agent. Another problem with traditional cleaning products is that it can be very difficult to clean every part of a surface, such as deep cracks or crevices, or the odd corners of irregularly shaped objects. With electrostatic disinfection techniques, everything gets an even coat of the disinfecting agent, regardless of how the object is shaped.
Combined, this makes electrostatic disinfection a much better solution for eliminating germs and other dangerous microbial agents.
This new technology is currently being embraced around the world. Janitorial services, offices, bus depots, airports, and more are now utilizing electrostatic disinfection to help prevent the spread of COVID-19 and other dangerous diseases. If your office is at risk, you should be using it too.
